The Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP) held its annual conference at the Golden Conifer from the 5th to the 6th of September. The theme for this year’s conference was ‘Preparedness and Response to Public Health Emergencies in Zimbabwe’. In the past few years, Zimbabwe has experienced public health emergencies which include disease outbreaks, road traffic accidents and natural disasters. Various stakeholders from Ministry of Health and Child Care, civil protection unit, Zimbabwe National Army, and non-governmental organisations shared their experience during the aftermath of cyclone Idai that hit part of Manicaland province earlier in the year. Representatives from the City Health departments of Chitungwiza and Harare also shared their experiences and lessons learnt from the typhoid and cholera outbreaks that they have been experiencing since 2017. Also in attendance was the ZimFETP team, led by program director, Professor Tshimanga where four residents presented their results from studies they conducted as part of their core activities for learning.
